Team Seymour NCO among ACC’s 'Airmen of Excellence'

A noncommissioned officer with the security forces squadron was named an 'Airmen of Excellence' when Air Combat Command officials announced the command's top Airmen at a banquet April 13.

"We're here to recognize not just the winners, but all of the nominees who have clearly demonstrated accomplishments that set them apart from their peers," said Chief Master Sgt. David W. Popp, ACC command chief master sergeant. "These 'Airmen of Excellence' embody the Air Force's core values of Integrity, Service Before Self and Excellence in All We Do."

Airman 

Senior Airman Daniel Nicholas from the 7th Civil Engineer Squadron at Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, is the 2007 ACC Outstanding Airman.

Airman Nicholas, a Honolulu native, joined the Air Force in 2003 as an explosive ordnance disposal technician. He has been deployed to U.S. Army Logistic Supply Area Anaconda and other forward operation areas in Iraq. Airman Nicholas is currently at Fort Bliss, Texas, for Combat Skills Training in preparation for his upcoming deployment.

Noncommissioned Officer 

Staff Sgt. Geoffrey Welsh from the 4th Security Forces Squadron at Seymour Johnson AFB, N.C., is the 2007 ACC Outstanding Noncommissioned Officer.

Sergeant Welsh, a native of Dunbar, Pa., joined the Air Force in 1998 as a security forces specialist. Sergeant Welsh, who completed a bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering, has deployed numerous times in his career. He recently returned from Baghdad, Iraq, where he provided explosive detection in downtown Baghdad and supported other combat missions.

Senior Noncommissioned Officer 

Senior Master Sgt. John Holcomb from the 2nd Civil Engineer Squadron at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., is the 2007 ACC Outstanding Senior Noncommissioned Officer.

Sergeant Holcomb joined the Air Force in 1984 as a fire protection specialist, a position he still holds today. He has been stationed at Carswell AFB, Texas; Galena Air Base, Alaska; Bergstrom AFB, Texas; Mountain Home AFB, Idaho; Eielson AFB, Alaska; and Kunsan Air Base, Korea.

First Sergeant 

Senior Master Sgt. Scott Delveau from the 728th Air Control Squadron at Eglin AFB, Fla., is the 2007 ACC Outstanding First Sergeant.

Sergeant Delveau joined the Air Force in 1984 as a tactical air command and control specialist. He has served as a flight chief of the Hurlburt Field Airman Leadership School and has been a first sergeant for more than six years. Sergeant Delveau is currently deployed to Balad, Iraq.

The winners were chosen out of 25 nominees, representing more than 83,000 enlisted men and women from across the command, including the Air Intelligence Agency at Lackland AFB, Texas; the U.S. Air Force Warfare Center at Nellis AFB, Nev.; 1st Air Force at Tyndall AFB, Fla.; 8th Air Force at Barksdale AFB, La.; 9th Air Force at Shaw AFB, S.C.; 12th Air Force at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz.; and Headquarters ACC here.

Winners from the four categories will compete at the Air Force level, where a selection board will convene in late spring at the Air Force Personnel Center, Randolph AFB, Texas.
