The mandatory wearing of the official PT uniform began Oct. 1, but here are a few reminders for Team Seymour.

All Airmen are required to have one running suit, two T-shirts and two pair of shorts.
The revised Air Force Instruction 36-2903 states when doing organized PT, the shorts and T-shirts will be worn as a set and not mixed with civilian clothes.

Commanders (or equivalent) will determine which PT events are organized. They may also dictate the wear of the PT gear while performing organized PT.

AFI 36-2903 also states that the PT T-shirt may be tucked in or out, and the shorts will be worn with the shirt. The lining in the PT shorts may be removed, but no other PT items can be modified, such as sleeve removal.

Navy blue or black Spandex shorts and leggings may be worn under PT shorts, and full length leggings may be worn during cold weather periods. The pants will be worn with the PT shirt and do not have to be zipped at the pant legs.

The T-shirt must be worn when the PT jacket is worn. The jacket can be zipped or unzipped, but the hood will be stored and zipped when not in use.

White socks of any length must be worn and can display a small conservative trademark or logo. Any type of athletic shoe is authorized, but it is recommended to choose a type with features designed to take care of feet, such as motion controlled shoes or stabilizing shoes.

Undergarments are mandatory with all PT gear combinations.

All hats or winter caps are authorized, but must maintain a professional military image with no offensive wording, graphics or photos on them. Bandanas and other similar headgear are not authorized without a medical waiver. Hair standards and saluting do not apply while working out with the wear of the PT uniform.

For safety reasons, a reflective belt must be worn by anyone running or conducting PT at dawn or dusk. Additional safety items such as black, blue or white sweatbands or ski wraps, personal hydration systems, fanny packs, armbands and gloves are all authorized while performing individual PT.

Jewelry can also be worn, but must follow normal uniform wear rules and must not be a safety hazard.

Headphones and earphones are authorized while in gym area or designated running track. If running anywhere else other than the designated tracks, the use of headphones is not advised. The inability to hear an approaching vehicle can put an Airman at risk for a potential injury.

All Airmen must follow the PT uniform standards set in place while staying fit to fight to win the global war on terror.
