Team Seymour spouses were treated to an instructional workshop, July 9, at a local bread company in Goldsboro, North Carolina, through the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Hearts Apart program.

Eight spouses received the opportunity to immerse themselves in the various baking processes and made bread, blueberry scones and other sweets.

“I really enjoyed myself at this workshop,” said Jamie Clawson, wife of Senior Master Sgt. Travis Clawson, 4th Civil Engineer Squadron fire fighter. “I appreciate the relationship that the local bread company has with the military spouses on our base and the opportunities they provide. I look forward to future workshops like this one.”

The program partners with many local companies, giving spouses an opportunity to learn about a myriad of different businesses. The Hearts Apart program is run by the Airman and Family Readiness Center and provides support to spouses of deployed or remote military members.

“We enjoy building the camaraderie between us and the base,” Michele Jones, local bread company co-owner. “It’s a great opportunity having this workshop; we learn a lot about the base and how things operate and what spouses and [military] members go through every day and in the same sense [they] learn about we do every day as a local business. It’s just really important to us that members of the base are taken care of and happy.”
