A former NFL star turned motivational speaker visited Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Sept. 25, 2018.

Herschel Walker has partnered with the Patriot Support Program’s “Anti-Stigma Campaign” to share his experience about dealing with his mental disorder.

Walker said many of those who suffer from mental illness don’t want to admit they may have a problem. This may be used as a coping mechanism.

Since 2008, Walker has visited numerous military installations and shared his story to thousands of service members and families to emphasize the importance of seeking help for mental illness

“We’re not promised tomorrow,” said Walker. “So if you have a friend, yourself or a loved one, don’t let them wait, let them get help.”

The Patriot Support Program treats active-duty military, veterans and their families to manage the effects of combat stress, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, substance abuse, and other post-deployment adjustment related issues.
