FILING AN INSURANCE CLAIM:

If you have experienced a flood, you can file your flood insurance claim by following these three steps.

STEP ONE: NOTIFY YOUR INSURER TO START THE CLAIMS PROCESS

After experiencing a flood, contact your agent or insurance company to file a claim. Make sure you have the following information handy:

•             The name of your insurance company

•             Your policy number

•             A telephone and/or email address where you can be reached at all times

•             An adjuster should contact you within a few days of filing your claim. If you do not hear from an adjuster, please contact your insurance agent or       company again. Find your company’s toll-free    phone number.

 STEP TWO: DOCUMENT THE DAMAGE

 •             Separate damaged from undamaged property. Your adjuster will need evidence of the damage to your home and possessions to prepare your repair estimate.

•             Take photographs of all of the damaged property, including discarded objects, structural damage, and standing floodwater levels.

•             Make a list of damaged or lost items and include their date of purchase, value, and receipts, if possible.

•             Officials may require disposal of damaged items so, if possible, place flooded items outside of the home.

STEP THREE: COMPLETE A PROOF OF LOSS TO SUPPORT YOUR CLAIM

•             Your adjuster will assist you in preparing a Proof of Loss (which is your sworn statement of the amount you are claiming including necessary supporting documentation) for your official claim for damages. You'll need to file your Proof of Loss with your insurance company within 60 days of the flood. You'll receive your claim payment after you and the insurer agree on the amount of damages and the insurer has your complete, accurate, and signed Proof of Loss.

UPDATE, Oct. 11, 11 a.m.:

- The Wayne County Boil Advisory has been extended. Seymour Johnson AFB is not affected by the Wayne County Water Advisory. The base water supply is provided by the City of Goldsboro, which is separate from the Wayne County water supply. Base water is safe for consumption.

However, for SJAFB personnel that are customers Belfast-Patetown Sanitary District, Eastern Wayne Sanitary District, Northwestern Wayne Sanitary District, Southeastern Wayne Sanitary District, Southwestern Wayne Sanitary District, Fork Township Sanitary District, Town of Eureka, Town of Fremont, Town of Pikeville, and Village of Walnut Creek, there is a potential for contamination due to several water line breaks.

As a precautionary measure and for the next 48 hours, those affected are encouraged to boil all water used for consumption or use commercially bottled or previously stored water. Bring the water to a full rolling boil for a period of one (1) minute before consumption or ice making. This should greatly reduce the possibility of any bacteriological contamination. If you cannot boil water, add plain household bleach (4-6 percent cholorine), using 1/4 teaspoon per gallon, shake, and let stand for 30 minutes. Water should have a slight bleach odor.

Because boiling water can increase nitrate levels that might be present, bottled water or stored water should be used by pregnant women and for preparing infant formula. If you do not have bottled water available, it is better for them to drink boiled water than no water at all.

- The Mission Assurance Exercise originally scheduled for tomorrow, Oct. 12, has been postponed due to the effects of Hurricane Matthew. More information will be released when the exercise is rescheduled. For more information please call 4 FW/IGI at 722-8078.

- Until further notice, Slocumb Gate will be closed to ALL vehicle traffic due to road erosion.

Berkeley Gate will continue to be open 24/7 for privately owned vehicle traffic. Oak Forest Gate will be open 6 AM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday for commercial vehicles.

Expect delays while entering and exiting the installation during peak traffic hours (6:30-8:30 a.m. and 3:30-5:30 p.m.)

- Due to limited childcare provider availability, the Child Development Center hours of operation will be from 7 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. and available to mission essential personnel only. Youth Center hours of operation will be 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Only school age programs will be available. Additionally, there will be no open recreation activities until further notice.

UPDATE, Oct. 7, 8 a.m.: Seymour Johnson Air Force Base remains in Hurricane Condition (HURCON) 4. Wayne County Public Schools will dismiss two hours early today. 

The current forecast predicts the following weather information:

Seymour Johnson AFB:

25-35kt sustained winds with 45kt gusts

7-10 inches of rainfall

Ft. Fisher:

40-45kt sustained winds with 60kt gusts

11-13 inches of rainfall

Dare County Range:

20-30kt sustained winds with 40kt gusts

6-8 inches of rainfall

UPDATE, Oct. 6, 11:07 a.m.: Seymour Johnson Air Force Base is repositioning 41 F-15E Strike Eagles from the 4th Fighter Wing and six KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft from the 916th Air Refueling Wing today to Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana.

Additionally, the 23rd Annual Seafood, Blues & Jazz Festival at Ft. Fisher this weekend has been cancelled, it will be rescheduled for a future date. The Three Eagles Golf Course and Cafe will also be closed Oct. 8-9. 

UPDATE, Oct. 6, 9:30 a.m.: Hurricane Matthew is a strong Category 3 hurricane located 255 miles southeast of West Palm Beach, Florida, moving northwest at 12 miles per hour. Matthew will move into a more favorable environment over the next several hours and is forecast to strengthen into a Category 4 hurricane before encroaching on the Florida coastline. Matthew will move up the eastern seaboard and is expected to make an eastward turn late Saturday into Sunday and begin to move southward back toward the Bahamas on Monday into Tuesday.

Based upon the current track, Fort Fisher is still expected to see tropical storm conditions and heavy rain with upward of 10 - 12 inches. Gusty winds and 4 - 6 inches of rain are expected here at Seymour Johnson. Localized flooding is expected in the area. 

UPDATE, Oct. 6, 8 a.m.: Seymour Johnson AFB is currently under Hurricane Condition 4, which means destructive winds are possible within 72 hours.  
 

Hurricane Matthew is forecast to take a sharp right turn on Saturday and head eastward into the Atlantic Ocean, which is more favorable for Seymour Johnson AFB. Matthew is still a strong Category 3 hurricane and expected to strengthen to a Category 4 when skirting Florida before it slowly weakens again. Bear watch for any other major shifts and check-in here for more information.

UPDATE, Oct. 5, 11 a.m.: Seymour Johnson AFB is currently under Hurricane Condition 5, which means destructive winds are possible within 96 hours.

As of 7 a.m., Oct. 5, Hurricane Matthew is located 65 miles NNW of the eastern tip of Cuba moving north at approximately 10 mph.

Hurricane Matthew is a strong Category 3 hurricane and is expected to strengthen to a weak Category 4 as it pushes into the Bahamas and toward the Florida coast by Friday morning. Based upon the current track, hurricane force winds are still expected to impact Fort Fisher, while tropical storm force winds could be seen here at Seymour Johnson AFB.
