COLONEL BRIAN R. MONTGOMERY

Col. Brian R. Montgomery is the Vice Commander, 4th Fighter Wing, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Goldsboro, N.C. As the vice commander, he assists the wing commander in the organization, training and deployment of one of the largest fighter wings in the United States Air Force, consisting of nearly 6,000 Airmen and civilians. The wing is also home to the multi-role, all-weather F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft which is assigned to two operational and two training fighter squadrons, flying more than 15,000 sorties and 24,000 hours a year. The 4th FW teams with and provides overall host support for the 916th Air Refueling Wing, an Air Force Reserve Command KC-135R wing with an active duty squadron. The wing's assets total $5.2 billion with an annual operating and maintenance budget of $240 million.

 

Col. Montgomery is a graduate with Honors from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina. Colonel Montgomery entered the Air Force in 1996 through Officer Training School (OTS). He initially served as a financial officer at Wright Patterson AFB, working in the F-15 System Program Office. During this tour, Col. Montgomery was selected to attend Joint Undergraduate Navigator Training at Pensacola Naval Air Station.  As an F-15E Weapons System Officer (WSO), he has served as an Instructor WSO, Mission Commander, and Flight Examiner.  He has multiple deployments in support of OPERATION NOBLE EAGLE, OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM.  Col. Montgomery also served as Command Strategist for NATO Air Training Command-Afghanistan, Director of 4th Fighter Wing Inspections, Director of Operations for the 18th Air Support Operations Group, Commander, 20th Air Support Operations Squadron, Fort Drum AIN, New York, and Director, NATO Deployable Air Operations Center, Poggio-Renatico, Italy.
