With the end of Operation New Dawn and the corresponding withdrawal of U.S. Forces from Iraq, the award of the Iraq Campaign Medal was terminated on Dec. 31, 2011.

The ICM recognized those U.S. service members who endured the physical danger and arduous duty associated with combat service in Iraq during the period of March 19, 2003 through Dec. 31, 2011.
