4th LRS earns ACC-level award Published April 5, 2011 By 1st Lt. Beth Ebersole 4th Logistics Readiness Squadron SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Members of the 4th Logistics Readiness Squadron recently earned the Air Combat Command's 2010 General Thomas P. Gerrity Logistics Award. Sponsored by the Air Force Association, the annual award recognizes logistics and maintenance squadrons excelling in their contributions to logistics operations, management, business processes and the overall success of logistics operations worldwide. ACC chose the 4th LRS as the top performing squadron among all logistics and maintenance squadrons within the command. "This award is a true representation of the unparalleled dedication to duty each and every Airmen in the 4th LRS puts forth on a daily basis," said Chief Master Sgt. Steven Milroy, the squadron's chief enlisted manager. The 4th LRS played an instrumental role in moving the wing efficiently. During 2010, they fueled 29,500 F-15E Strike Eagles and KC-135R Stratotanker sorties, maintained 275 aircraft parts worth nearly $230 million dollars, processed 2.8 million pounds of cargo, moved 30,000 people through deployments and permanent change of stations, while maintaining the 4th Fighter Wing's 537 vehicle fleet. The squadron's Airmen and civilians also planned and executed 23 major movements including emergency preparations for Hurricane Earl, air expeditionary force rotations, operational readiness exercises and inspections, and other contingency operations. The 4th LRS re-aligned and re-allocated resources to ensure the most effective use of personnel, parts and vehicles here. These improvements saved the Air Force and the 4th FW thousands of dollars in operating costs, setting the standard for logistics and maintenance squadrons throughout ACC. The 4th LRS will compete against other command-level Gen. Thomas P. Gerrity Logistics Award winners for the Air Force-level award. "The synergistic efforts and accomplishments of these warriors are paramount to the 4th FW's ability to continuously meet mission requirements and support the war on terrorism," Chief Milroy said. "I consider it an honor and privilege to be associated with such an elite team!"
