Pilots, weapon systems officers and support Airmen from the 336th Fighter Squadron and Aircraft Maintenance Unit traveled to Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., to participate in a Combat Hammer exercise Jan. 29 through Feb. 6.

The 86th Fighter Weapons Squadron controlled the Combat Hammer Air-to-Ground Weapons System Evaluation Program's week-long assessment of F-15E Strike Eagle crews who dropped GPS and laser-guided weapons.

The program, run by the 53rd Weapons Evaluation Group, evaluates the effectiveness and suitability of combat Air Force weapon systems. This WSEP was the first evaluation of small diameter bombs at Eglin and the first evaluation of laser joint direct attack munitions in a Combat Hammer.

The evaluations are accomplished during tactical deliveries of fighter, bomber and unmanned aerial system precision guided munitions on realistic targets with air-to-air and surface-to-air defenses. This provides a realistic level of combat experience many units may face during combat.
