Airmen assigned to the 4th Fighter Wing burn pianos during an event in recognition of the Battle of Britain at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina, Oct. 20, 2023. Although, there is no historical precedence for the piano burning, legend says that the tradition came from a young aviator who was KIA during WWII and in his honor aviators who fought alongside him burned the piano he once played.
