SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Each year, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base leadership addresses members of the Goldsboro community to present the State of the Military.
Col. Christopher Sage, 4th Fighter Wing commander, along with Col. Scovill Currin, 916th Air Refueling Wing commander, updated the audience about Seymour Johnson Air Force Base’s accomplishments, it’s partnership with the community and current construction projects happening on base.
The State of the Military was held Oct. 10, 2017, at the Goldsboro Event Center in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
Members of the Wayne County Military Affairs Committee, including Dr. Scott LaFevers, MAC chairman, attended the event. LaFevers spoke about building the relationship between the base and the community, increasing awareness of what the MAC offers and promoting base events to the local community.
“The MAC continues to participate in various opportunities to support Seymour,” said LaFevers.
LaFevers also added future plans for the MAC which included hosting a yearly group social and plan to start a ‘Sponsor an Airman’ program to help further unite Seymour Johnson AFB Airmen with the local community.
Currin addressed the group by recapping the 916 ARW’s year and presented the plans for the recently awarded Boeing KC-46A Pegasus Aerial Refueling Tanker.
The event’s concluding speaker was the 4 FW commander, who spoke about the strong bond between Seymour Johnson AFB with the Wayne County community, base events and future plans for the 4 FW.
Sage also applauded the relief effort put forth by the base and the local community after suffering the damaging effects of Hurricane Matthew.
“It was definitely a team effort that I’m so proud of,” said Sage. “We worked closely with both the county and the city to pull our resources to get through that hurricane together.”
After recapping the current base construction projects including the recently added sun shades to the base splash pad and add-ons to the base fitness center, Sage discussed the biggest project happening on base.
“We are going from having the oldest clinic in the Air Force to having the newest clinic in the Air Force,” said Sage.
The new base clinic will contain state of the art technology and is scheduled to open in 2018.
A new mission video was presented, highlighting the F-15E Strike Eagle and the 4 FW mission of providing dominate Strike Eagle airpower, anytime, anywhere.
