Air Combat Command announced Nov. 2 the 4th Fighter Wing is the recipient of the 2017 ACC Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.

Seymour Johnson AFB Airmen were recognized for their outstanding achievements, June 1, 2015, - May 31, 2017.

“This award represents all the work and dedication our Airmen display each and every day,” said Col. Christopher Sage, 4th FW commander. “Our Airmen continue to leap hurdles and knock down walls, while supporting dominant Strike Eagle airpower … anytime, anywhere.”

According to the award citation, the wing executed ACC’s largest flying hour program, despite the historic Hurricane Matthew evacuation that devastated eastern North Carolina leaving the surrounding areas in a state of emergency. Despite those challenges, the men and women of the 4th FW displayed great resiliency and dedication to the mission coming together to lead ACC’s largest fighter wing and provide combat airpower in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. Their efforts directly contributed to the liberation of Fallujah, Iraq and Manjib, Syria accounting for nearly 2,000 enemies killed in action. While supporting contingency operations, the 4th FW continued to distinguish itself with in-garrison operations crafting the largest F-15E syllabus change in 25 years, overseeing base and airfield improvement projects valued at $100 million, and forging new medical practices that set benchmarks for all other wings to follow.

Any Airmen assigned to the 4th FW or a subordinate unit from June 1, 2015, - May 31, 2017, is eligible for the AFOUA ribbon. Any Airmen who believes they are eligible for the ribbon, but didn’t receive one should contact the 4th Force Support Squadron Military Personnel Section at 722-8677.
