Service members around North Carolina gathered at the combat arms shooting range here, May 14, to compete in an excellence-in-competition (EIC) pistol match.

The EIC pistol match tested participants on handling, reaction time and efficiency of shots fired with the M-9 pistol.

"I think it's great to take advantage of these opportunities and get involved with the base," said Airman 1st Class Samantha Overdear, 4th Contracting Squadron contract specialist. "I know I could have shot better, but it was great practice and any time allotted at the range is always beneficial. It's awesome to have a chance to compete with your fellow Airmen."

The competition featured Service members firing at targets 25 yards down range. The times allotted to shoot ranged from four seconds to two minutes, 30 seconds.

The match allowed any member of the Armed Forces to participate and compete individually for points toward an EIC badge. The top 10 percent of shooters were eligible for the award.

"The EIC competition was designed to challenge shooters of all skill levels to compete in an Air Force level shooting competition and give all base personnel the opportunity to get away from their normal duties and enjoy a day on the shooting range," said Tech. Sgt. Troy Dierkhising, 4th SFS combat arms NCO in-charge. "There was positive feedback from all participants who attended. We look forward to possibly holding additional EIC matches down the road to give all Airmen the opportunity to participate in these types of Air Force matches."
