Trying to live a healthy lifestyle can be challenging at times, but Seymour Johnson's Health and Wellness Center staff can help you maintain your personal goals.

The HAWC is a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to enhancing Air Force mission readiness and providing guidance and education to the Team Seymour community.

"The HAWC ensures military readiness for the Air Force, that is our main goal," said Dr. Monair McGregor, 4th Aerospace Medicine Squadron HAWC flight commander. "The three focuses we fulfill are; reducing tobacco use, giving nutritional education and guidance, and physical fitness."

The HAWC was recently appointed three new members to fulfill mission requirements. New to the team is Joe Gonzalez, 4th AMDS HAWC physiologist, Staff Sgt. Donald Byrd, 4th AMDS HAWC NCO in-charge, and McGregor. In addition to the new staff, Tiffany Harrison, 4th AMDS HAWC registered dietitian, has been part of the staff for 18 months.

There are a variety of new programs that have been implemented into the HAWC's 2013 schedule. The hip and glute clinic, and a strength training clinic. Also being reintroduced is the running clinic, helping to train runners for marathons or physical assessments, along with the walk with the HAWC program, which is focused on staying active during the winter months.

"Helping others and seeing their progression to reach their goals is very rewarding," Byrd said.

Other programs still in effect are the "Better Body. Better Life," prenatal nutrition and tobacco cessation programs. Active duty only programs include the physical training leader course and the Be Well program.

The HAWC is open for all military beneficiaries, including active duty, reservists, retirees, dependents, civilians and contractors.

The HAWC is located on the second floor of the base fitness center, and is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m.
