Col. Jeannie Leavitt, 4th Fighter Wing commander, made surprise visits promoting two Airmen through the Stripes for Exceptional Performers here, Dec. 13.

Tech. Sgt. Daphne Adams, 4th Operations Support Squadron aircrew flight equipment flight chief, was promoted to the rank of master sergeant, and Staff Sgt. Rebecca Lawrence, 4th Logistics Readiness Squadron logistics planner, to the rank of technical sergeant.

Both Airmen garnered a variety of accolades and decorations earning their instant promotions. Adams was the 2011 4th FW NCO of the Year, and Lawrence recognized as the 2012 Superior Performer for the Logistics Compliance Assessment Program.

Each year the Air Force releases a limited number of slots available for a STEP promotion. Major commands pass down these slots, allowing Wing commanders to give on-the-spot promotions to deserving Airmen.
