The 4th Civil Engineer Squadron fire emergency services flight held a holiday safety demonstration here, Dec. 5.

During the demonstration, 4th CES fire fighters set a tree on fire to show how quickly it can go up in flames. They also stressed the importance of properly maintaining a Christmas tree and keeping it away from heat sources.

According to the National Fire Protection Agency, from 2005 to 2009, U.S. fire departments responded to approximately 240 fires during the holiday season's and one out of every 18 fires resulted in a death. Approximately 20 percent of these fires were caused by a heating source near something flammable, like a tree, making this one of the leading causes of home fires during the winter months.
