Nearly 200 first-term Airmen attended a briefing about the constrained Air Force specialty list at the base theater here, Nov. 14.

The constrained AFSC list shows which Air Force career fields are over manned and only allowing a limited number of first-term Airmen to reenlist, said Master Sgt. Latasha Carroway, 4th Fighter Wing Career Assistance Advisor. This means that first-term Airmen on this list either have to cross-train, go into a specialty career field, go Guard or Reserve, or leave the military.

As of Nov. 1, there are 28 career fields on the constrained AFSC list. This impacts approximately 400 of the nearly 3,000 first-term Airmen on Seymour Johnson Air Force Base who are on the constrained AFSC list. However, they are not the only people effected, all first-term Airmen Air Force-wide are impacted by the restraints of the Air Force.

"There are just too many people in certain career fields," Carroway said.

Carroway briefed that every first-term Airman has to be approved to be a part of the career job reservations program. This program is what enables the Air Force to control the number of first-term Airmen who reenlist into a particular AFSC.

First-term Airmen who want to stay in the military, need an approved CJR, or else they will not be allowed to reenlist, Carroway said.

The Air Force Personnel Services website will update constrained AFSC quota as changes occur at https://gum-crm.csd.disa.mil.
