This year's Fire Prevention Week motto was "Have two ways out" and U.S. Air Force Airmen assigned to the 4th Civil Engineer Squadron hosted several events to spread this message to the community.

Team Seymour firefighters visited local schools, conducted demonstrations and a tour at the firehouse for base youth and held a parade through base housing to educate people about fire prevention.

"As firefighters, we are here to serve our community not only by providing fire fighting capabilities but also by informing people on how to prevent such disasters," said Staff Sgt. Skipper Valentin-Cruzado, 4th Civil Engineer Squadron NCO in charge of logistics. "We want our community to know that we are here to help under any circumstance."
The main focus of this year's FPW, "Have two ways out," prompted the firefighters to put together a puppet show full of singing and dancing to help children remember what to do when faced with a fire.

"Communicating this message in a fun, energetic and colorful way made it more attractive to children," Valentin-Cruzado said. "We wanted them to memorize our safety message as easy as they can remember a song they just heard on the radio."

The 4th CES fire prevention office believes FPW is the best way to spread important prevention information out to parents and children. Firefighters hope families will be better prepared for a fire by teaching them to have two ways out of their homes.

"There isn't a doubt in my mind that this year's FPW participants enjoyed the festivities," Valentin-Cruzado said.
