Crash recovery Airmen from the 4th Fighter and 916th Air Refueling Wings came together to participate in a joint-operation training session here, Oct. 9.

The refresher training was held to enhance the knowledge of crash recovery Airmen and better prepare them for a real-world emergency response to an aircraft mishap.

Airmen assigned to the crash recovery response teams respond to all in-flight emergencies and ground emergencies, and assess problems to the aircraft.

After familiarizing themselves with the KC-135R Stratotanker, the Airmen conducted an exercise simulating a collapsed nosegear on the KC-135R.

It is critical for crash recovery to respond quickly and efficiently to clear the runway should any aircraft mishaps occur, said Tech. Sgt. Garrett Faust, 4th Equipment Maintenance Squadron crash damage disabled aircraft recovery program manager. With a clear runway, the 4th FW and 916th ARW can continue to produce airpower and complete mission requirements.
