Airmen approaching the end of their active duty contract or who are half-way through their current contract and want to separate or pursue a reserve career, need to talk to their in-service recruiter.

For those serving at the 4th Fighter Wing the man to see is U.S. Air Force Reserve Master Sgt. Clayton Callahan

"I'm not here to pull people off active duty," Callahan said. "I am here to help you, if getting off active duty is something you want to do."

There are two options to pursue through the base in-service recruiter, they are palace front and palace chase.

Palace Front is for Airmen who are at the end of their active duty contract. The recruiter sits down with them to discuss their options to either separate or go into the Reserves.

All Airmen coming to the end of their active duty contract and wish to separate must come see the in-service recruiter.

"For Palace Front we let the Airmen separating know there are other options beyond the active duty force they can pursue," Callahan said.

Palace Chase is for anyone who completed half of their active duty contract and wants to separate from the active duty force. For this program Airmen must enlist into the Reserves to serve the remainder of their contract. When applying to Palace Chase it takes six to eight weeks to find out if a package is approved or disapproved. If approved Airmen will have 30 days to find a job, either in their current air force specialty code or have the option to apply for cross training. If disapproved Airmen can reapply after 120 days.

"I encourage Airmen to come by and see me," Callahan said. "Being prepared and knowing your options is key to a successful future."

For more information, Airmen should attend a briefing held on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 9 a.m. in Building 4915 or call at 919 722-2259.
