More than 300 members of Team Seymour and the local community attended the First Annual Purple Heart Banquet hosted by the Goldsboro/Wayne Purple Heart Foundation at the Walnut Creek Country Club, Aug. 10.

More than 40 Purple Heart recipients, including five representing Team Seymour members, and families of recipients killed in action were recognized at the dinner.

The Purple Heart is a military decoration presented in the name of the President to military members wounded or killed while serving. The decoration is the oldest still awarded to military members. There have been approximately 1.7 million Purple Heart recipients, 8,000 of which were service men and women from the conflicts in Iraq.
