A popular area military vacation spot is currently receiving additional upgrades to its facilities.

The mobile home units, campground sites, cottages and common areas at Fort Fisher, located approximately two hours away, are receiving renovations.

"These upgrades will provide a better quality of life for our guests," said Katie Powell, 4th Force Support Squadron Fort Fisher site director. "People will notice the upgrades at first glance."

Repairs to the facility began in September 2011, and while completion isn't expected until late May, Powell said the facility will remain open for Department of Defense personnel looking for relaxation along the Carolina coast.

More than 15 mobile home units will feature new carpeting and linoleum. Common areas such as the reception center and recreation hall received new paint and 16 RV campsites now have improved power capabilities.

"We have a lot of people using the facility each year," Powell said. "We felt there were some minor housekeeping issues we needed to fix to help our customers enjoy their stay even more."
