Strike Eagle Medics capture SJAFB volleyball championship Published March 6, 2012 By the 4th Medical Group SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- It's the final game; hearts are pounding, fists are clenched and adrenaline pumps as the Strike Eagle Medic volleyball team takes the floor to face the 4th Logistics Readiness Squadron team for the base championship. It was a tough season with lots of sweat and injuries; however, the Medics blasted the competition in the playoffs bringing them to face the 4th LRS, the team that defeated them last year in the finals. Needless to say, the Strike Eagle Medics were hungry for a win and a win they achieved! The match was close and it was apparent 4th LRS was not going down without a fight. In the opening game, the first 15 points were back and forth with the score tied. A surge in points near the end of the game resulted in a medic win 25-19. The next game was even closer. In fact, toward the end of the game, it looked like the 4th Medical Group might not win -- they were behind. A soccer-like foot save from Staff Sgt. Eric Reyes was the spark needed to propel the Medics to defeat the 4th LRS 26-24. A third game was not necessary; the 4th MDG took the match in two games and thus, the base championship. Congratulations, Strike Eagle Medics!
