Weekly bulletins for Feb. 9

SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- The following is a list of events taking place across the wing and in the local community:

· The Parents Matter program takes place every Thursday through Feb. 23 from 5-7 p.m. at the Youth Center. Parents Matter helps parents increase their comfort level when talking to their children about sexual topics and sexual risk reduction. This program is primarily for parents and guardians of children ages 9-15 years old. It does not tell parents what to say to their children, but gives them the knowledge, skills and comfort to communicate their values and expectations about sexuality and sexual behaviors with their children. · Military volunteers will assist with a Diamonds in the Ruff dog wash and adoption event Feb. 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cuts-4-Muttz on Royal Ave. in Goldsboro. There will be rescue dogs available for adoption, reduced price dog washes, give-aways, face painting, raffle prizes and more.

· A 1,2,3 Magic Parenting class occurs Feb. 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Family Place. Lunch is provided. For information or to register for the class, call 919-722-1123.

· A Calling All Dads class happens Feb. 21-23 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Family Place. The class, for dads and taught by dads, focuses on the basics of being a successful father. For more information or to register for the class, call 919-722-1123.

· A Successful Relationships Workshop takes place Feb. 23 from 1-4:30 p.m. at the Family Place. The workshop focuses on topics such as conflict resolution and overcoming unhealthy learned behaviors. For information or to register for the event, call 919-722-1123.

· A bullet writing Lunch and Learn occurs Feb. 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is open to all ranks. Seating is limited. · A Mardi Gras Cajun Chicken Cook-off takes place Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. Cook-off teams need three members. Event registration ends Feb. 18. To sign-up, e-mail pamela.pressley@seymourjohnson.af.mil.  

· An inventory of all munitions on the base stock record happens Feb. 27 through March 3. This inventory will not affect the daily flying schedule for Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. Munitions customers will not be issued munitions or be able to turn in munitions during this closed warehouse inventory. Emergency issues will be available if it meets all the requirements in Air Force Instruction 21-201 paragraph 7.13.2.3. This inventory will not affect munitions already issued to a munitions account. It will also not affect assets courtesy stored within the munitions storage area. After the inventory and reconciliation, the munitions flight will resume normal operations. · The Run for Freedom 5k and Community Fair hosted by Project Heart takes place March 17. Project Heart provides service members care packages and scholarships. For more information or to register, go to www.register.runtheeast.com and search Run for Freedom.

· The Spartan Race obstacle race benefiting Homes For Our Troops occurs March 24-25 in Charlotte, N.C. For more information or to register, visit www.spartanrace.com. For a military discount use promotion code NCSPARTA013.

· The Scott Berkeley Chapter of the Air Force Association will soon award $1,000 scholarships to deserving high school seniors and spouses beginning their college education as a first time college student. Applicants must be a dependent or spouse of active duty, retired, guard or reserve Air Force personnel. Applications are available at the education and training office. · The Science and Technology Academies Reinforcing Basic Aviation and Space Exploration program will be held June 18-22. STARBASE is a five-day math and science camp for rising fifth graders. Participants perform science experiments, build and launch model rockets, study Bernoulli's Principles of Flight and Newton's Laws of Motion, tour base facilities and more. Class size is limited, but children of base personnel have first priority.
