New base entry cards required by Dec. 15 Published Dec. 8, 2011 By Tech Sgt. Scott Hellinger 4th Security Forces Squadron SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- The 4th Security Forces Squadron (4 SFS) has begun using a hand-held scanner to check ID cards at all base gates. The initiative is part of the new Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS). DBIDS is a Homeland Security and Department of Defense initiative used to account for personnel, property and to grant installation access. The program allows 4 SFS gate guards to verify personnel entering Seymour Johnson AFB by scanning the barcode located on common access cards (CAC) or any other approved DoD identification card. The process should take three to five seconds per person. Individuals carrying retiree ID cards issued before the year 2000 and those without a barcode, such as retirees with a Department of Defense Form 2-AF ID card, need to visit the new Seymour Johnson Support Center to get a new version of the DoD Form 2 AF by Dec. 15. Their office is currently located at 1600 Wright Brothers Ave. and an appointment can be made by calling (919) 722-8677. After Dec. 15, those with the old cards must get a visitor's pass prior to entry. Additionally, anyone with an AF Form 354, such as retired DoD civilians, and dependents of DoD civilians who are authorized base access, will also need a new ID card for use with DBIDS. While the current plan is to change the cards over through attrition, individuals wanting a new ID card must make contact with the Security Forces Pass and ID office in Bldg 2903 by calling (919) 722-0525. All other personnel who have a current base entry card without a barcode on the back of it will be transitioned to the DBIDS badges either through attrition or in a mass reissue. These individuals include NAF employees, contractors, Military Affairs Committee members, college instructors, vendors and extended visitors. While the 4 SFS plans to work with these individuals/groups specifically, individuals falling into this category have the option and are encouraged to get a DBIDS card now. Individuals who are 18 and older and require new cards will need two forms of ID. The customer service office can provide a complete list of acceptable items. They will also set up appointments and accept walk-ins during certain hours. If you have a question on what is required, please call (919) 722-8677. For those under the age of 18, all that is needed is the old ID card. The 4th SFS will make every attempt to reduce the strain of implementing the new system for base personnel and the community. We appreciate your cooperation in our latest efforts to ensure the safety of Seymour Johnson. Contact the 4th SFS Pass and ID office at (919) 722-0525 or the Military Personnel Section Customer Service, (919) 722-8677 with any questions or concerns.
