Town hall meeting gives single Airmen a voice Published Nov. 10, 2011 By Senior Airman Marissa Tucker 4th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Ideas such as a disk golf league and a new scrolling marquee for dorm residents were discussed during a town hall meeting held for single airmen here, Nov. 9. Airmen from around the base were able to voice their opinions on how to use more than $17K, which is a grant from Air Combat Command as part of the Single Airmen Initiative Program as a way to develop new programs, said Shawna Morton, program director at the community center here. "All Air Force bases are receiving the grant to develop new programs geared at Airmen ages 18- 25, but all Airmen are encouraged to attend all events," Morton said. The goal of the meeting is to ensure single Airmen do not feel left out, said Senior Airman Husein Khan, 4th Aerospace Medicine Squadron public health technician. "We (Airmen) do enough complaining to each other about what could be done, but the town hall meeting provides the atmosphere for our complaints and suggestions to be voiced to the right people," said Khan. Representatives from the Exceptional Airmen Gaining Leadership Experience and Skills (EAGLES) were also there to urge Airmen to become more involved in base activities and to speak out on things they would like to see happen here. "This money is for us," said Senior Airman Kenda Zornes, president of the EAGLES committee and 4th Medical Support Squadron pharmacy technician. "The base creates many programs that Airmen do not take advantage of, so we want to know what everyone wants to do, so we can make those things happen." Officials of the 4th Force Support Squadron will take the findings from surveys given to Airmen and hope to create programs that Airmen will participate in and enjoy.
