CFC 2011 Kicks off Sept. 1 Published Aug. 18, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Mariah Tolbert 4th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- The 2011 Combined Federal Campaign will begin on Sept. 1, providing members of the Seymour Johnson community a chance to donate to numerous charities. "The mission of the CFC is to promote and support humanity through a program that is employee-focused, cost-efficient and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all," according to the CFC website. This year, the campaign will run from Sept. 1 through Dec. 15. The local Federal Coordinating Committee for CFC proposed Seymour Johnson with a goal of $218,000, which was determined by the amount the men and women of Seymour Johnson raised last year. "CFC is a once-a-year, 'in the workplace' charitable drive designed exclusively for federal employees," said Master Sgt. Kevin Stewart, one of the 4th Fighter Wing CFC representatives. "Individuals can choose which organization they wish to contribute to, which can be done either by a one-time cash or check donation, payroll deduction or by using the online program." More than 2,700 local, national and international charitable organizations participate. Participating organizations range from charities that benefit veterans to those that provide scholarships for high school students. "Charities that apply to receive funds through the CFC are required to submit an extensive review of their financial and government practices prior to acceptance," according to the CFC website. "We can all take an active role in CFC, either by donating a monetary amount or a little of our time to assist with an organized fundraiser," Stewart said. The base can't meet its goal without the help of its Airmen. With an extensive list of organizations to donate to, Airmen are bound to stumble upon one that hits close to home and makes a difference to those in need.
