4th Medical Group ready for upcoming inspection

SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. --  Military and civilian healthcare agencies will be conducting a routine inspection of the 4th Medical Group to evaluate the organization's compliance with healthcare standards Aug. 1-5.

The inspection, conducted by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and the Air Force Inspection Agency, evaluates ambulatory medical care facilities with regards to the promotion of patient safety and quality of care provided. Although the accreditation process is necessary, the AAAHC emphasizes the educational and consultative benefits of the survey.

The AFIA is checklist-oriented in its inspection, focusing on military requirements in health care. They closely evaluate areas such as flight medicine, mental health ,public health, bioenvironmental engineering and dental readiness. These professions, which are also found in the civilian sector, have special meaning and importance to the military community.

The 4th MDG was last inspected in August 2008 and received a rating of "Excellent." Since then, the staff has made several changes to improve their processes, including implementing electronic medical records.

The inspections are a report card of how well the clinic staff provides care, treatment and services to the Seymour Johnson community while supporting the mission of the wing. The 4th MDG staff prepares year round for these inspections while maintaining mission readiness for deployments and providing primary health care for beneficiaries.

Throughout the week, inspectors and surveyors will conduct surveillances with various staff members, do a walk-around of the facilities and hold a healthcare advisory forum for the public, among other activities.
