Spouses of the 4th Fighter Wing were treated to a day in the life of an Airman as Team Seymour hosted the wings first Spouses Appreciation Day here at Debden Park, May 26.

Several base agencies including the fire department, Airmen from the Combat Arms and Training and Maintenance flight and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal flight provided static and interactive displays to give military spouses a better feel for what their loved one does every day, said Capt. Jonathon Haba, 335th Fighter Squadron weapons systems officer and point-of-contact for the event.

"We really wanted to give our spouses an opportunity to see what goes on in the 4th Fighter Wing every day," Captain Haba said. "

Spouses received the royal treatment as the 4th Operations Group, who planned the event, provided tours of fighter squadrons, taxi rides in F-15E Strike Eagles, military working dog demonstrations and a viewing of the F-15E Strike Eagle Demo Team practice. For many of the spouses, this was their first experience meeting other wives and getting a taste of the wing.

"I really don't come to a lot of events like these, but I decided to come out and start meeting more people," said Melissa Sangle, wife of Senior Airman Christopher Sangle, a firefighter here. "The previous spouse events helped me get accustomed to the base and make some friends."

Airman and Family Readiness center staff were also there to give information about resources available to families and also to give out gift bags as a thank you to spouses. The military family life coordinator and community readiness consultant were also available to address questions or concerns of spouses.

"We understand that it can be really rough to be at a new base and not know what is available to you. The Airman and Family Readiness Center exists to help Airmen and dependents," said Anita Berber-James, 4th Fighter Wing community readiness consultant.

Representatives from Food Lion were also in attendance and provided free drinks and refreshments to the event. The A&FRC plans to continue the monthly spouses orientations at Eagles Landing.
