Air Force Selects a Private Owner to Privatize Housing at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Published May 17, 2011 By 4th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- The Air Force has selected Picerne Military Housing of East Greenwich, R.I., to manage the housing here. The project is part of the six-base Continental Group Housing Privatization Project and includes McConnell Air Force Base, Kan., Edwards AFB, Calif., Eglin AFB, Fla., Hurlburt AFB, Fla., and Eielson AFB, Alaska. The project deal, valued at $545 million in development costs, provides new and renovated housing for 4,188 military families. Under the deal at the six installations, the U.S. Air Force will lease up to 2,425 acres of land as part of a 50-year transaction and convey 3,739 existing housing units and other improvements to Picerne Military Housing. Seymour Johnson AFB will turnover 529 homes to Picerne at transaction closing and an additional 179 homes after ongoing construction is complete. While the Continental Group is the first Air Force project to be awarded to Picerne Military Housing, they currently manage housing at seven Army installations.
