Smoke detectors and springing forward Published April 7, 2011 By By Eric Harper 4th Civil Engineer Squadron SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Daylight Savings is a great reminder to ensure smoke detectors are working in the home. Smoke detectors significantly increase the chances of surviving a deadly home fire and the 4th Fighter Wing is encouraging everyone to take these simple steps to be prepared: · Test and clean smoke detectors and remember to test them monthly. · Replace the batteries at least once a year. · Place smoke detectors on every level of the residence and in every bedroom. · Check the manufacture expiration date on all smoke detectors. All smoke detectors have expiration dates. Contact the Fire Prevention office at 722-3836, 722-3837, or 722-3838 for any questions about smoke detectors or fire safety.
