The Wayne County Public Schools support the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base community by providing quality education to our military children; in turn the base takes every opportunity to mirror their efforts.

Seymour Johnson's first lady danced to the occasion to give back to our children by competing in the Dancing Stars of Wayne County, March 26.

"I looked at it as a special opportunity to represent Seymour Johnson and support the community in their efforts to raise money for the educational network, which directly affects our military children," said Dee Dee Doherty, wife of Col Patrick Doherty, 4th Fighter Wing Commander.

Mrs. Doherty earned the the judge's choice female outstanding preformance when she represented team Seymour in the Dancing Stars of Wayne County along with dance partner and instructor, Mr. Allen Grimes, of Top Hat Dance Studio. Both performed the fox trot during the competition.

"This experience has taught me to continue to step out of my comfort zone and try new things, which I find rewarding," said Mrs. Doherty. "I also think it is a great way to get out into the community and meet new friends, which will further develop a healthy relationship between the community and base."

As the command spouse, Mrs. Doherty encouraged other military spouses to join her in this important community effort.

"After living in Goldsboro for some time now, I realize how much the people of Goldsboro support and care for Seymour Johnson," Mrs. Doherty said. "This is one way of showing our appreciation and support for the community in return."
