Select SFS functions relocate to fire department Published Feb. 11, 2011 By Tech. Sgt. Tammie Moore 4th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- In an effort to streamline operations and provide 4th Security Forces Squadron customers better service, the base defense and emergency services operations have merged into the Emergency Control Center. The ECC, now located in the 4th Fighter Wing fire station, provides the base's first-responders the ability to integrate emergency personnel dispatch, fire department and security forces functions. "The integration of emergency personnel allows for clear, rapid, seamless transfer of information and quick utilization of the right resource," said Tech. Sgt. Rafe Rice, 4th SFS NCO in charge of operations support. There were times the previous emergency response process could lead to incorrect information being relayed, which could cause delays in response times. "Now, the FD and SF dispatcher both pick up the 911 line and get the exact information from the source at the same time," Sergeant Rice said. "If further information is needed by either FD of or SF (personnel) then the dispatcher can asks directly. Less re-transmissions of information and more accurate information collection is related relayed to the responders." In addition to moving the base defense and emergency services operations to the fire station, the SF customer service desk was is now also relocated there. This is where witness' witnesses and victims of crimes, which don't necessarily require an armed SF member, can go to fill out statements and make complaints. Customers can report unsecured property theft, damage to personal property with no witness or suspect, and crimes not requiring a SF member's immediate response to protect life or prevent further property damage. or to secure possible crime scenes. "The customer service area was designed in coordination with the fire department," Sergeant Rice said. "This allows for a knowledgeable Force Protector to be able to assist our community with their needs." The relocation would not have been possible without the assistance of the staff at the fire department. "We are grateful to Chief (Sean) Quinby and the 4th Civil Engineer Squadron (members) who have welcomed us openly into their home," Sergeant Rice said. A SF defender will staff the customer service desk Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except Wing down days and holidays. For assistance, customers can walk-in or call 722-7591. Customers should use this line to report or ask questions about non-emergency situations. If someone has an emergency situation they should dial 911.
