Warrior health, medical fairs benefit you Published Aug. 18, 2010 By Tech. Sgt. Aaron D. Geyer 4th Aerospace Medicine Squadron SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- One of the main goals of the 4th Medical Group is to optimally protect warfighters in the area of responsibility. The primary way to do this is to speed up the mobility process for real-world air and space expeditionary force deployers by holding medical mobility fairs. Unlike mobility fairs that take place on or near the flight line, these medical mobility fairs occur at the MDG. Once medical personnel establish a schedule, Airmen who have hard-tasked to deploy will report to the clinic in shifts to complete their individual medical readiness requirements. The typical time each member will be out of pocket during the medical mobility fair averages two hours; however, time can vary from four minutes up to four hours depending on the amount and type of needed medical assessments. After an Airman reports to the clinic, they check in and receive a personalized list of medical requirements to complete prior to leaving the facility (e.g. immunizations, lab work, optometry, etc.). After running the gauntlet of immunizations, medications and briefings, Airmen will check out with the Warrior Health Team. In most cases, the member will depart the facility medically ready and one very important step closer to deploying. During the medical mobility fair held in July, 304 Airmen were seen, which involved 102 medical group staff members and 589 man-hours. Medical Readiness requires the teamwork of all parties involved, including the deployer, the unit and the MDG. The result of this teamwork and attention-to-detail is zero area of responsibility medical discrepancies during the past three years.
