The Three Eagles Golf Course staff does not let the sizzling summer heat slow them down, they are working to keep their greens in top shape and offering a number of discounts.

During the last year there have been several improvements made at the base golf course.

"In the summer of 2009 we closed our course for two months so that we could re-do our fairways with a new more aggressive, drought resistant grass," said Hope Holden, Three Eagles Golf Course golf operations assistant. "The fairways have filled in nicely and the conditions of the fairways are already an improvement from how they were before. We also worked on improving the condition of our bunkers during the same time. We had three fairways that did not take as well as the rest, so this year we re-sprigged them and added some sod to them."

In June there was also a drill and fill project conducted to help keep the greens healthy and in good condition.

"These significant improvements to the greens and fairways during the last few years reflect the commitment of the Air Force to keep the game alive for the young Airman, or the crafty veteran," said William Miller, an avid golfer who has been playing the sport for 19 years.

The Three Eagles Golf Course does not does sell memberships instead the offer annual green fees.

"An AGF card holder is entitled to unlimited Green Fees for the year," Ms. Holden said. "If someone plays golf more than four times a month it would benefit them financially to have AGF card. An AGF card holder is entitled to unlimited Green Fees for the year. If they play four times a month they break even, if they play more they save more."

Despite the fact that there are several courses in the local area Mr. Miller made the decision to purchase annual green fees at the Three Eagle Golf Course.

"After playing several courses within commuting distance, the challenge of scoring and executing shots made the decision easier to join Three Eagles," said the 4th Comptroller Squadron quality assurance, unit training and unit deployment manager. "Cost is an obvious factor, but the tight tree lined fairways and small crowned greens drew my attention to making myself a better golfer."

Mr. Miller said he thinks the best feature of the course is the variety it offers.

"The par fours require position, the par fives are long enough for the big hitters and the par threes vary in yardage and wind direction," he said.

The course staff offers a number of programs to help new golfers learn the game and hone their skills.

"We offer different programs that are very affordable to help people who are not regular golfers better their game," Ms. Holden said. "We have two different instructors here who offer individual and group lessons, Jon Kan is our PGA professional and general manager and Hank Harris who is a golf instructor offers individual, group and package lessons. We also have a program for the driving range, called the Golfer Advancement Program. It is $35 a month and includes unlimited range use as well as one group clinic per month with one of our golf instructors. (Participants) must sign up in advance for the clinics."

The Three Eagle Golf Course is currently offering four summertime specials for members and non-members alike. The discount deals include:
· Anyone who has not been an annual green fee holder in the past year will receive a 10 percent discount when they sign-up from an annual membership through the end of August. · Mondays through Fridays AGF golfers can check out a golf cart for the day for $13 and non-AGF golfers for $20. The fee includes a $6 meal voucher.

Ms. Holden offers a variety of reasons for golfers to check out the updated course.

"We have a fairly tight course that can be challenging but very rewarding," Ms. Holden said. "We have a friendly, customer service oriented staff. Our rates are typically lower than off-base courses. We have a driving range that is open 24/7. We have stadium lighting that can be turned on at night and a ball dispensing machine that takes ones, fives and tens as well as credit card."
