The 4th Fighter Wing wrapped up Coronet Warrior 10-04 a two day Phase I operational readiness exercise, July 20.

Despite some initial hurdles with personnel processing and aircraft generation, the base community came together to ensure all exercise requirements were met.

"Although we saw improvements across many areas, we still have to refine a few critical processes and ensure each Airman is performing at an exceptional level in order to get the results the inspection teams will be expecting in the Operational Readiness Inspection," said Col. Patrick Doherty, 4th FW commander. "The important thing to remember is this preparation is not only for the upcoming ORI, but these combat readiness skill sets are making us more combat capable and ready to deploy with fully mission capable aircraft at a moments notice."

Coronet Warrior 10-04 inspectors also tested the ability of base personnel function in elevated force protection condition levels for a sustained period of time. Everyone on base had to increase their vigilance due to reports of a suspected terrorist cell in the North Carolina area targeting military installations. In addition, several Airmen from the base augmented the 4th Security Forces Squadron to help provide an extra layer of protection for the Seymour Johnson community and wing assets.

"This is a team effort all the way," Colonel Doherty said. "We need to continue all of the great work and give maximum effort to ensure the entire wing can deliver superior results during inspection execution."

This was the fourth in a series of preparation exercises for the upcoming ORI scheduled for October when inspectors from Air Combat Command will travel here to rate the ability of base personnel to deploy Airmen, aircraft and cargo.

"This is an avenue to get our wartime operations ready, when this is over we will be a better wing," said Lt. Col. Thomas Colby, 4th FW chief of staff.

The next Phase I ORE will take place Aug. 16-18.
