The smell of funnel cakes and hot dogs hung in the air as musicians belted out the latest contemporary Christian rock songs during a Family Appreciation Day event at Debden Park June 19.

The event ,hosted by Whitley Church and The Bridge, was a free day of family entertainment for the Seymour Johnson community designed to show the church congregation's appreciation to those who choose to serve their country.

The church staff provided food, drinks and a wide range of children's activities from face painting to rock wall climbing. In addition, there were performances by a number of entertainers including Take 2, Richard Phillips, the Witness Mime Team and Freddie Pierce.

"This 4th Fight er Wing Family Appreciation Day is just our way of letting (those at) Seymour Johnson know someone cares and loves them and anything we can do to serve you better is our purpose," said Jimmy Bryant, The Bridge outreach and children's pastor. "Our cause is very simple, we just want to say 'thank you' for all you do for our great nation."
