A group of credit union cyclists will begin a three-day odyssey through eastern North Carolina June 17. The ride, which kicks off at Fort Bragg also marks the end of a $100,000 fundraising campaign by credit unions that will benefit severely injured military members and their families.

Hope for the Warriors is a grassroots non-profit organization that provides support to military members who are recovering from serious combat injuries.

"Hope for the Warriors is working miracles in the lives of America's heroes," said John Radebaugh, NC Credit Union League President/CEO. "Credit unions throughout North Carolina and even beyond the state's borders have combined to raise the funds in a very short time. Their combined efforts are a reflection of the gratitude credit unions and their members feel for the military members and their families who have sacrificed so much on behalf of freedom."

The four bicyclists and two support crew members form "Team Little Guy" and have collectively raised money from credit unions in both Carolinas since last fall to benefit Hope for the Warriors. The funds raised will be used for the Warriors Hope and Care Center, which will open at Camp Lejeune next year.

The three-day cycling event covers more than 200 miles and will pass by five military installations in North Carolina - including Fort Bragg, Pope and Seymour Johnson Air Force Bases (day one), Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station (day two) and Camp Lejeune (day three). The ride concludes June 19 at the headquarters of Marine Federal Credit Union in Jacksonville, where the check for Hope for the Warriors will be presented.

The riders will stop at several credit unions along the route in order to rest -- and say thanks. TLG will arrive at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base at 3:30 p.m. June 17 at the NC Community Federal Credit Union branch located in the base exchange. Donations are being collected at NCCFCU and will be presented to "Team Little Guy" during the celebration.
