More than 85 children ages 5-15 participated in Operation Bug Out here April 30. The Airman & Family Readiness Center hosted the event due to the high deployment tempo of the base to help ensure children understand what their parents must go through during the deployment process.

The children met at the youth center, where they were issued their uniform of the day and dog tags before taking the oath of enlistment.

Following the briefing, deployers learned what medical personnel, firefigthers, explosives ordnance technicians and security forces do on a daily basis and about some of the equipment used. The children received a briefing from the wing commander and then visited the personnel deployment facility. Col. Patrick Doherty, 4th Fighter Wing commander, talked to the youth about the Air Force core values and what it means to be a part of the Air Force family.
