The 4th Component Maintenance Squadron Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory Quality Assurance Shop performs 30 monthly evaluations and as of January 2010, they have a 100 percent pass rate. If an Airman does not pass an evaluation a quality assurance specialist will talk to the technician and their supervisor then perform a root cause analysis to find the true cause of the problem.

In addition, QA specialists perform daily foreign object and debris checks, maintenance reviews and self-inspections. During self-inspections QA tests equipment, looks at housekeeping and checks for safety violations. If any problems are found they report it directly to the flight chief.

Despite being assigned to the 4th CMS, the Seymour Johnson PMEL shop receives orders directly from Air Combat Command, where they send all of their monthly quality reports.

The PMEL community, as a whole, receives guidance from Air Force Metrology and Calibration Program Office, located in Heath, Ohio. The AFMETCAL retains engineering authority for all calibrations performed in the PMEL labs throughout the Air Force.
