Airmen took part in an ability to survive and operate training session to prepare for an upcoming Phase II exercise in December on Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, N.C., Nov. 18. The training included simulated self aid and buddy care situations, chemical decontamination actions, weapons handling, post-attack reconnaissance and unexploded ordnance identification. The ATSO training was focused on Airmen who have never played a key role in an exercise. During training, Airmen performed tasks in mission-oriented protective postures and learned how to correctly don and remove their gas-mask. Instructors also reviewed the use of the buddy system when taking off battle dress over garments and the importance of safety.
