Crew chiefs on the F-15E Strike Eagle spend a year as augmentees in the wheel and tire shop. The Airmen determine the serviceability of tires and the repairs needed. They break down unusable tires, inspect them and rebuild them into new tires. Once this process is complete, the wheel and tire shop non-commissioned officer in charge conducts a final check to make sure the tire is ready for use, then sends it back to the flightline. On average, the wheel and tire shop receives 50 tires per month.
