The party is open to active duty, dependents, Reservist, retirees and Department of Defense employees, essentially anyone who can get on base, said Candace Marriner, 4th Force Support Squadron marketing director. There will be a costume contest for various age groups and categories. Medallions will go to those with the scariest, most creative and best overall family costumes. The event will also feature free food and games. This is a great way for families to celebrate the Year of the Air Force Family, spend quality time together and have fun while doing it, Mrs. Marriner said. "It is a great balance." Oct. 31 Off-base Trick-or-Treat hours run 5-8 p.m. and base hours are 6-8 p.m. The base chapel Harvest Fest is Oct. 31, 6-8 p.m., at the Medial Clinic soccer field located on Biggs Street. A costume parade begins at 7:30 p.m. There will be free hot dogs, chips, drinks and popcorn. There will also be six game areas run by teens from the Chapel Protestant Youth Group. All game participants will receive prizes and candy. "The Harvest Fest is offered as a chapel outreach to the community," said Steward Smith, 4th Fighter Wing chapel Protestant community coordinator. "We want to provide a safe and fun environment for children on Halloween. It is dedicated to self expression (through) costumes and community involvement." This Trick-or-Treat alternative is open to the Seymour Johnson community, who the chapel staff encourages to bring friends and neighbors as guests for the event. This event allows children to enjoy Halloween on a larger scale than just a neighborhood door-to-door candy run, Mr. Smith said. "Safety is a main concern and we will have plenty of adult supervision for the event. If you are looking for an event that is safe and fun for the entire family, where everything is free, then the Chapel Harvest Festival is the place for you."
