The base will participate in Make a Difference Day Oct. 25 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. cleaning and painting buildings here in need of improvements.

Make a Difference Day is an initiative created by Juanita Joseph, volunteer program coordinator at the Airman and Family Readiness Center here, to help agencies with little to no funding improves the appearance of their buildings.

"There are so many volunteer programs for servicemembers to do outside the base, so I decided to look for places on-base that could use some work that they normally do not have the manning to complete," Mrs. Joseph said. "With the unit compliancy inspection approaching, it's a great time to spruce things up."

Agencies the volunteers will help include the Community Center, the Airman's Attic, the Family Place and the Enlisted Club. Volunteers are encouraged to bring any supplies such as paint, gardening tools, hoses, etc. to help the cause, Mrs. Joseph said.

Childcare will be provided at the Community Center where participants will meet and split up to go to their respective areas at 8 a.m. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided in the morning and lunch will be provided by a local steakhouse.

"We want to make some of these places brighter and more inviting," she said. "The Airman's Attic, for example, provides a great service to Airmen, but the building could use some improvements that they just do not have the manpower for."

Volunteers will also be needed to drive trucks and deliver materials to drop-off points Saturday. Participation is open to anyone with access to the base, and those with a decorative hand are encouraged to attend.

"Encourage your flight, squadron, club or family to attend," Mrs. Joseph said. "Let's make a difference right in our own backyard."
