Next wing commander announced

Senior Air Force leaders have identified Col. Mark D. Kelly to assume command of the 4th Fighter Wing here from Col. Steve Kwast.

Colonel Kelly is coming to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base from the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing, Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan. Prior to his deployment he served as the vice commander at the 366th Fighter Wing at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho.

As vice commander, he supported the wing commander in overseeing an operational fighter wing of more than 4,800 military and civilian members and three squadrons of F-15C and F-15E fighter aircraft.

Colonel Kelly entered the Air Force in 1986, receiving his commission from the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Southwest Texas State University.

He is a command pilot with more than 5,000 flying hours. He has served in operational F-15E units in the Pacific Air Forces, U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Combat Command where he led combat missions over Bosnia, Afghanistan and Iraq in support of Operations Deliberate Force, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
