It's that time of year again when the days are getting longer and the nights are getting shorter. It is the perfect time for cookouts, relaxing at the beach, road trips, motorcycle rides and enjoying sports with friends and family. Summer is also the time when serious accidents increase; where the lives of fellow Airmen hang in the balance. This is why the Air Force has named the time between Memorial Day and Labor Day the "101 Critical Days of Summer."

It is critical for those who are associated with the Air Force to make well informed decisions. Last summer the Air Force suffered 19 fatalities during this time and one of them was a Seymour Johnson Airman. Six of those fatalities were alcohol related.
Personal risk management means assessing experience, training and individual perceptions to make an informed decision about how to keep Airmen and their families and friends safe.

If you or an Airman under your supervision plan to partake in some of summers more high-risk activities, make sure to fill out the High Risk Program Guidance package, which can be accessed through the 4th FW Safety page on the portal. Some examples of these high risk activities are sky diving, bungee jumping, auto-racing, dirt biking, jet skiing and boating.

It's everyone's responsibility to stop someone when they see an issue that may put fellow Airmen at risk. Do the right thing. The wing safety office reminds everyone to keep safety in mind and make smart choices while enjoying time with family and friends.
