Brian Rakers and John Parrott, both from the 4th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, were two of 416 senior master sergeants Air Force-wide to be notified online of their selection to the rank of chief master sergeant Nov. 14. The promotion cycle was an example of the new shift to virtual notification of promotion. Virtual notification is part of the Air Force's personnel services delivery concept to provide Airmen the information they need when they need it. The two sergeants went before a board Oct. 15-25 at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas. The board considered 2,476 senior master sergeants for a 16.80 percent select rate, .05 percent lower than in 2006. According to the Air Force Personnel Center, the average score for those selected was 671.39 with an average time in grade and time in service of 3.04 and 23.49 years respectively. The average score was based on the following point averages: - 135 for enlisted performance reports - 27.75 for time in grade - 23.75 for time in service - 24.29 for decorations - 66.35 for Air Force supervisory examination - 394.25 for board score
