Water restrictions tighten for Team Seymour

Goldsboro has begun the third, and most restrictive, phase of water conservation rules on Nov. 5.
The base receives its water from the City of Goldsboro. To extend existing supplies and assure sufficient water resources are available to preserve public health, sanitation and fire protection services, Team Seymour must reduce water usage.

In accordance with the water restriction and conservation guidelines, the following activities are prohibited:

- Residential watering of plants and vegetation,
- Personal vehicle washing except at commercial car washes that reduce usage by 30 percent,
- Filling of ornamental pools or fountains (the Heritage Park fountain recycles its water),
- Watering of golf courses and athletic fields if using water from the City's water system,
- Intentional misuse or wasting of water.

In addition, all water leaks must be repaired within 24 hours of discovery. Please call 722-5139 if you discover a water leak in a base facility and call housing maintenance if you discover a water leak in base housing.
Water will only be served at restaurants upon request.

Note: Base residents may see fire hydrants on base being flushed during this notice. As with the previous water conservation phases, the water system on base must be flushed periodically to ensure we maintain state water quality standards. Flushing the system is a necessary preemptive measure to prevent health risks.
For additional information, please call 722-5980.

Water Conservation Measures
1. Take 5-minute showers instead of baths.
2. Do not let water run while shaving, brushing teeth, and rinsing dishes.
3. Keep a bottle of water in the refrigerator to avoid running tap water until it gets cold.
4. Only run dishwasher or clothes washing machine with full loads.
5. Inspect and repair leaky valves on faucets and toilets.
6. Install water-saving devices on toilets and showers.
7. Do not allow children to play with hose or sprinklers.
8. While waiting for hot water, save the water for animals to drink or to water plants.
9. Use a broom instead of water to wash down sidewalks, patios, and driveways.
10. Do not use the toilet as a wastebasket. Put tissues and trash in a trashcan.
11. Limit toilet flushes.
12. Use disposable & biodegradable dishes where possible.
13. Catch rainfall with containers under drain spouts. Use it for outdoor watering.
14. Use pistol-grip nozzles on hoses to avoid waste when watering flowers and shrubs.
15. Aerate lawns by punching holes 6 inches apart to allow water to reach roots.
