Lt. Gen. Gary North, 9th Air Force commander, visited the base Oct. 18-20 to see the 4th Fighter Wing's mission capabilities and to meet the Airmen who exude the "Fourth, But First" mentality.

During his visit, he dined with Airmen and junior noncommissioned officers at an Airman's Breakfast at the Southern Eagle Dining Facility and spoke to them about key issues affecting today's Air Force.

"He discussed issues about force-shaping, deployments and recapitalization," said Senior Airman Evelyn Nicholson, 4th Civil Engineer Squadron. "He was a humble, kind and intuitive individual who seemed interested in the ideals of the Airmen present and very efficient in answering all questions."

While visiting, the general also flew in an F-15E Strike Eagle, the premier weapon in the 4th Fighter Wing's mission of providing airpower, on-target, on-time, for America.

"We are the most professional, talented and capable Air Force in the world," General North said. "We are the Air Force that everyone else wants to be like."

As the Air Force shifts toward a new era with future recapitalization efforts, General North stressed the importance of staying sharp and focused on the future.

The most important weapon we have is the combat capabilities, experience and expertise we're passing through our young Airmen, Gen. North said. These Airmen will be the ones to fight the wars our nation will ultimately be forced to fight.
