CARENET program now in effect Published Oct. 18, 2007 By Capt. Shaundra Williams 4th Medical Group group practice manager SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Effective immediately, the 4th Medical Group introduces the CARENET program, an upgraded benefit for the base's 13,500 beneficiaries. The program, founded in 1989, is privately owned and already serves many other DOD medical treatment facilities. Patients who access the clinic's phone line after hours, on weekends and on holidays will now be able to speak to a health care professional. The previous method for obtaining after-hours assistance was an answering service that took a message and paged the provider on call. All urgent calls will be returned to the member within 30 minutes. CARENET nurses will have the authority to directly refer patients to urgent care if deemed appropriate. Other alternatives include home care and the opportunity to speak with the on-call provider. If there is a threat to life, limb or sight, proceed to the nearest emergency room. For after-hours medical assistance, call 722-1802.
